La Fromagerie: our menu
La Fromagerie at la Grange is a luncheon restaurant and part of
the La Grange Gallery. It is housed in a 200 year old barn on the old Cabriére
Estate in the Franschhoek winelands, established by one of the first French
Huguenots to come to the valley.
Lunch is served on the verandah with mountain views. When it rains we move inside
and arrange the tables around a central fire place. One can also share our huge
table in the kitchen.La Fromagerie specializes in sophisticated lunches served
caféstyle, where cheese and local wines play a major role.
We offer over 40 South African farm house cheeses, sourced and carefully selected
from cheesemakers all over the country. Cheese boards are on the menu, and all
40 cheese varieties are for sale. Other cheese courses include Cheese Soufflé,
Ricotta Lasagna, Grilled Camembert with caramelized pears and so on.
Also on the menu is Franschhoek Salmon Trout either lightly seared or
poached in white wine, Beef Carpaccio with Parmesan shavings, and always our
special soups served cold in the summer and hot in winter.
Fresh bread is baked daily and served with olive oil, sea salt and coarsely
ground black pepper.
Wine we strive to serve top wines and ports at affordable prices. We
source them from Franschhoek and the wider wineland area. The criterium is always
that they are a good match to our cheeses.
